Loccy’s BetterBrowser for HTC Dream (T-Mobile G1)

by Opetek on Sep.05, 2009, under Dev-Zone, HTC Dream, Mobile, Puzzle

Release notes/changes for 1.4/1.4.1

  • fix to force close on mobile sites when double tap zoom cycle goes back to the “all the way out” setting
  • double-tap/triple-tap anywhere on a page to zoom
  • setting to change triple tap delay value in advanced settings (so the lower the setting, the more responsive double-taps are, but the quicker you have to get your triple-tap in!)
  • setting to change double-tap behaviour, between the existing zoom cycle, and also now just a simple zoom out only setting (so if you want to just keep it simple, and have double-tap to zoom in, triple tap to zoom out,
the latter will be the setting for you). How many zooms this will result in per cycle will depend on the page you’re viewing.
  • change to double-tap zoom cycle behaviour - now zooms ALL the way out to give a true page overview, and also introduces an intermediate step between page overview and 1:1 zoom (this is a nice level for sites with
    big fonts, eg. aintitcool.com)
  • click title bar (or top of screen) to bring down the address/search bar
  • click top left of screen to go to home page. Click it a second time when on the home page to exit the browser completely (or double-click from elsewhere).

How to Register the G1 without a SIM or Data Plan

by Opetek on Aug.25, 2009, under HTC Dream, Mobile

0. If you have an official RC29 or lower phone, type the following command on the phone keyboard to enable adb:
<enter>setprop persist.service.adb.enable 1<enter>

1. Download the SDK and unzip contents to a directory on your computer.
http://code.google.com/android/download.html

2. Download the USB Driver and unzip contents to a directory on your computer.
http://dl.google.com/android/android_usb_windows.zip

3. Connect the phone using the USB cable provided with the phone to your computer and direct your computer to search for drivers in the location you unzipped the drivers in.

4. Open a Run command prompt (WIN+R) and type cmd, then go to the directory where you unzipped the SDK and go to the “tools” directory. In the command prompt type: adb.exe shell

5. Type in the shell session and you should see the menu change on your phone:
am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -n com.android.settings/.Settings

6. Configure Wifi settings on your phone and the phone should be able to connect to the network, remember to WAIT for the phone to verify it has connected the network before exiting the screen, else you’ll have to redo the shell command in order to access the screen

7. Register the phone and watch everything sync.

Can we save more money on phone bill???

by Opetek on Aug.10, 2009, under Mobile

skype on mobile

Recently, my friend bought Skype monthly subscription and a online number for his home phone. Monthly subscription for Unlimited US & Canada to landlines and mobile is $2.95/month, Unlimited US, Canada and 1 world country is $5.95/month, and Unlimited World is $12.95/month. Right now they have a promotion to sign up for a monthly subscription and take an advantage of 50% off an online number. A Skype to-go number usually costs $60. Based on its Fair Usage Policy, “calls to phones and mobiles and Skype To Go calls are included in your subscription subject to a fair usage limit of 10,000 minutes per user per month, with a maximum of 6 hours per day. Also, no more than 50 different numbers in total can be called per day.” Here is where the idea comes from.

If we can have a mobile device with unlimited Internet online time, we will save a lot with Skype service. It is only possible to a cell phone with a data plan and Skype installable. Skype can be installed on Windows Mobile powered phones and iPhones. Questions should be answered for this plan are:

  • How much is data plan for phones?
  • Will carriers sell data plan without call plan?
  • Is there any restriction for the data plan?
  • What speed is required for Skype to make a normal call?
  • How long does the battery last?
  • Will the software still work when phone goes stand by?
  • Very important!!! How much can we save?

psx4iphone is Now on iPhone 3GS but very limited

by Opetek on Jun.26, 2009, under iPhone

ZodTTD now has psx4iphone running very speedy on the 3GS.  It’s at the point where Final Fantasy 7 is full-speed at very least without sound. The build is rough around the edges, as you can’t switch games without restarting the emulator, and only memory card saves are currently working, no save states just yet. Both these issues are being worked on.

So how would you like to run psx4iphone on your 3GS right now, even without a jailbreak? Well you can! ZodTTD can make a build for a limited number of people. In order to run this build you will need a tool like DiskAid for PC & Mac to place games & bios, that you must supply yourself, in a publicly writable directory. It’s simple drag & drop.

Still up for it? Since ZodTTD only a limited number of slots to fill to send out this build, it will currently cost $10 and you must email him your 40 character device ID (UUID/UDID) as provided within iTunes.

Stack v3.0 Alpha 1 for iPhone

by Opetek on Jun.26, 2009, under iPhone

Stack v3.0 Alpha1 allows for multiple stacks by implement the stack as an icon which can be moved anywhere on your SpringBoard. It’s re-written to be an icon in SpringBoard and can be moved anywhere, has all the same positioning and reordering abilities as any other icon, it doesn’t interfere with other apps, and is generally the cleanest and best way to Stacks’ implementation.

Features in iPhones 3.0

by Opetek on Jun.24, 2009, under Mobile

Copy, Paste, Cut & Undo

To use hold your finger in one place over an area of text. The magnifying glass will pop up and you’ll have the options for “Select” “Select all” and/or “Paste” (Paste only pops up if you have something copied already and are in an editable text area). If you choose “Select” you get some little doo-dads (technical term) that you can move around to select what you want to copy. “Select all” chooses the entire text region. In some areas you just hold the magnifying glass for awhile and let go, the phone will auto select an area and give you the option to copy. To paste go to somewhere where you can edit test, hold, select “Paste.” Cut works like “Select” except it cuts test from an editable area for paste somewhere else. To share safari links just hold on the link, wait for the pop up, and select copy.

For Undo just shake your iPhone and it asks if you’d like to undo!

Send & Receive MMS, Resend TXT

For most AT&T users, MMS is functioning with iPhone firmware 3.0. It is integrated into the normal SMS app. Choose the camera icon to the left of the text entry bit while in SMS to take a photo or choose one from your library to send. When you receive MMS a miniature image will pop up mid-conversation which you can select to see the full size.

Unfortunately, AT&T will support this function later this Summer.

If you send a txt message and it fails (because you lost network strength or something) you can simply re-send it without re-typing.

Listen to Stereo Bluetooth

If you have stereo bluetooth headphones or similar devices simply pair them to your iPhone. Done. Nice little image while you’re playing tunes too!
